There’s a city within our city—one built not of streets and buildings, but of strangers who might just become something more. Encounters is a guided evening of rapid-fire connection, where you’ll move through a series of short one-on-one conversations sparked by delightfully odd, curiosity-fueled prompts.

Think speed dating’s charmingly platonic cousin, designed for people who are tired of small talk and ready to skip the surface. You’ll meet fellow adventurers in conversation, each interaction being a chance to discover something unexpected about another person— and yourself.

Hosted and moderated by Invisible City member and Speedfriending Organizer Josh Manning, the evening wraps with a social hour to follow up with those who caught your curiosity. Whether you arrive solo or with friends, you’ll leave with fresh connections, surprising stories, and maybe even a new partner in (metaphorical) crime.

Open to all, we ask only that you bring your wit, wonder, and willingness to be seen.

Josh Manning | Speedfriending

Speedfriending started as a happy accident — a speed dating event that didn’t quite go as planned after a few last-minute no-shows, but still led to a night full of great conversations and unexpected new friendships. Realizing that making friends as an adult can be hard — especially after moving to a new city or trying to find people who share your interests — Speedfriending became a small effort to make that a little easier.

Invisible City Member, Speedfriending organizer, and your host for the evening, Josh Manning, has created all kinds of events in the past — from the weird to the nerdy — and is excited to be more actively involved with the IC community (albeit moving a little slower these days, since relearning how to walk after a skiing accident earlier this year).

Our Members share a collective passion to explore the unknown, embrace the absurd, and connect with each other. Whether it is a pop up dinner, intimate happy hour, ridiculous workshop, or a raging bacchanal, every experience is unique. Within our collective, there are no spectators, only participants.
